Shakib Al Hasan has been at the centre of controversial circumstances in plenty of instances. From going at loggerheads with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to facing a ban from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for not reporting corrupt approaches, the Khulna-born has hogged the limelight for wrong reasons a plethora of times.

On Friday, he was involved in another unwanted occurring. In the 40th match of the 2021 Dhaka Premier League (DPL) between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Abahani Limited, Shakib got tangled in controversy after showing dissent at the umpire’s decision.

After Mohammedan scored 145 runs in 20 overs, Shakib came to bowl in the fifth over of the run-chase. In that same over, Mushfiqur Rahim smashed him for a four and a massive six. Though he bowled four dots, he ended up leaking 10 runs.

Shakib Al Hasan loses his cool

In one of the deliveries, he appealed for an LBW decision against Mushfiqur. However, the on-field umpire didn’t give the batter out. Shakib reckoned that the batsman was struck in front and he lashed out at the umpire. In a video doing the rounds on social media, Shakib vented out and kicked the stumps in sheer anger and frustration.

Then, he had a heated argument with the umpire even as the other Mohammedan players gathered together to make the situation more animated. Left-handed batter Najmul Hossain Shanto, at the non-striker’s end, was also bemused by the entire development.

In another video, Shakib was seen uprooting the stumps and smashing them on the ground, taking out every bit of his agony. It remains to be seen whether or not the BCB decides to give Shakib a slap on the wrist with a fine or match suspension.

Here are the videos:

Shakib has had a torrid time with the bat in the ongoing DPL. In the first six matches, he managed only 73 runs at an average of 12.16. The all-rounder also bagged a couple of ducks and was in awful touch even in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka last month.

However, in the match against Abahani, he managed to score 37 runs off 27 balls with one four and two sixes before Mohammad Saifuddin dismissed him. Shakib is set to miss the second leg of the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) as he is unlikely to get a NOC from the BCB.
