The yo-yo test was introduced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in order to make fitness compulsory for players to stay put in their positions in the team. It has also been a worrying factor for the cricketers as a number of them in Sanju Samson, Mohammed Shami, and Ambati Rayudu was eliminated owing to the examination.

Rohit Sharma, who failed in the test a couple of times during the IPL, will also undergo the test with Ajinkya Rahane in the standby. A player has to accomplish a minimum of 16.1 out of 25 in order to reach the benchmark of qualification. Rayudu, Samson, and Shami were informed about the same immediately after the selection of the Indian teams back in May 8.

“Informing the players is an obligation”- BCCI

Meanwhile, a BCCI official believes that the test isn’t a tough nut to crack and is difficult to crack in other nations like that of Australia and Pakistan where the numbers are a tad high. “Anyone who does gym-work every day would clear the 16.1 score. In Australia and New Zealand it’s a high of 19 and Pakistan has set a starting score of 17,’’ a BCCI member was quoted as saying by Sportstar.

The representative also remarked that the board isn’t against any of the players and also mentioned informing the players as an obligation. “These are policy matters that cannot be taken independently by the BCCI. No one is against the players being asked to reach a high standard of fitness. But it’s obligatory of the BCCI to tell its members about the Yo-Yo tests before the start of the cricket season,” he added.

The likes of Navdeep Saini, Suresh Raina, and Ishan Kishan were the replacements of the rejected-trio for the India senior and the A teams. While the junior team is in England for a series versus England A and Windies A, the senior team will play Ireland in T20s and then the English team in a T20I, Test, and ODI series.
