The wide shouldered fast bowler, Shane Bond had impressed everyone with his skiddy pace and rhythm. The right-arm fast bowler used his tall frame to good effect extracting bounce even on docile tracks. Line and length being his forte, Bond led the bowling attack from the front in his cricketing days.
Bond’s cricketing career was always plagued with injuries which kept him away from the cricket field. However, being a fighter and with the hunger to be back on the field and represent his nation, he represented the national team for 10 long years. Playing 120 International matches for New Zealand, he picked 259 wickets. Moreover, he is the third fastest bowler to pick 100 wickets in One Day Internationals.
Bond Q&A with fans
Recently, Shane Bond joined the commentary box for the ongoing Champions Trophy to entertain and at the same time contribute to the sport in the way possible.
International Cricket Council (ICC) has started something interesting, which helps to reduce the gap between fans and their favourite players. Through the medium of Twitter, ICC asks the fans to put up questions, and if they find it suitable enough, the player answers it in the best way possible.
One of the New Zealand pacers fans asked him to “Name three most difficult batsman you’ve ever bowled to?”
Answering to the question, Bond kept ‘Sachin Tendulkar’ at first position because he felt he had all the shots in the book which made it difficult for him to find the right length.
As the second toughest he named Australian opener ‘Adam Gilchrist’ as he felt every time he bowled to Gilchrist, he tried to smash him all over the park and, most of the time he was successful in doing so. Lastly, the third batsman is Mr 360 ‘AB de Villiers’ as he felt AB has so much time that regardless of how fast you bowl, it felt like a slow motion.
He concluded by saying, “ Three great players but all different challenges.”
