Windies have been going through a stupendous run of form in their ongoing Test series against England, who are considered as one of the best teams in the format. After their 381-run victory at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, the hosts decimated Joe Root and Co by 10 wickets at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. Subsequently, Jason Holder’s men also won the three-match series.
The final Test match, which is scheduled to get underway on Saturday, February 9 at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia, is a dead rubber. In the meantime, the home team has been dealt with a body blow as the 27-year-old Holder has been handed a one-match suspension by the International Cricket Council (ICC) owing to slow over-rate.
Warne lashes out at the apex cricket board
It means that opening batsman Kraigg Brathwaite, also the vice-captain, is set to don the captain’s hat. Holder was stupendous in the series as he is currently the leading run-scorer with 229 runs at a gigantic average of 114.50. His top score of 202 not out came in the second innings of the opening encounter. He also picked up seven wickets with best figures of 4/43.
It will also be interesting to see who replaces Holder in the playing eleven in the inconsequential game. In the meantime, Shane Warne, the former Australian cricketer, is definitely not happy with ICC’s decision to suspend Holder. Moreover, the legendary leg-break bowler also asked Holder to appeal against the decision. Furthermore, he lauded Windies for their impressive show.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “The test didn’t go 3 days – can you please appeal this @JaseHolder98 ! What a ridiculous decision – where’s the common sense here ? Ps Congrats on a wonderful series win too. International cricket needs a strong Windies team & hopefully this is just the start @BrianLara,”
