Shane Watson, who had injured himself in the Pakistan Super League at Dubai is confident that he will be fit enough to turn out for Australia in the upcoming World T20. The 34-year-old all-rounder suffered an injury while bowling and withdrew from the tournament immediately.
Apart from stating that the injury was not anything major, Watson said,” It’s going to take me a couple of weeks to get back into batting and bowling.”
“We got it before it did too much damage. ’I’m very confident I’ll be right for the World Cup. That’s still three or four weeks away … It’s not like a side strain or anything like that. If everything goes to plan, I’ll be right.”
Watson was the highest pick in the PSL as he was snapped up by Islamabad United for 95 million rupees ($1.39 million) “I tried to bowl a slower ball but put too many revs on it and it twinged a bit,” said Watson.
Just a few weeks back, it seemed as though Watson’s international career was well and truly over. However, he was given another lease of life from the Australian selectors who chose him for the T20Is against India. Shane Watson slammed a memorable 124 while captaining the Aussie side in the last and final T20 at the SCG. His performances were enough to convince the selectors as Watson was named in the World T20 squad.
The World T20 begins on the 8th of May in India and it is quite clear that 34-year-old Shane Watson will be an integral part of the side.
