Shane Watson is perhaps one of the few players who brings an incredible value-add to the side that he plays in. He was also an important part of the Islamabad United side that went ahead and secured an impressive win in the inaugural edition of the Pakistan Super League. However, in spite of this, the 34-year old stated that he was skeptical about making the trip to Pakistan especially given the security issues that have been prevalent in recent times.

Of course, a massive thing has also been the attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in 2009, something that ensured the dearth of international cricket in the country since then.

“I’m still up in the air with what I’m personally going to do,” Watson, who toured Pakistan with an Australia A side in 2005, told foxsports.com.au.

However, Watson also went on to sympathize with the people of the country who have not been privy to cricket matches in recent times and would love to go and play cricket for them in front of them. “Pakistan’s people just absolutely love cricket … it’s very sad for their cricket-loving fans how volatile their country has been because they haven’t been exposed to live cricket at this level for quite a while. It would be awesome to be able to go for them.

However, despite the sentiment, Watson went ahead and stated that it was something that he did not want to take a lot of risks given the situation his family was in at the moment. “But just from a security point of view you want to be absolutely sure it’s safe to go. Especially at this stage in my life, having a young family, I don’t want to take heightened risks.”
