Sanju Samson, the cricketer from Kerala, recently was a part of the India ‘A’ squad for the unofficial one-day series versus South Africa ‘A’ in Thiruvananthapuram. After the conclusion of the series, the 24-year-old said that he would be giving all his match fees to the groundsmen of the Greenfield International Stadium. All the games in the five-match series were shortened due to rain.

In fact, the fourth match had to be played over two days. Samson was the Player of the Match in the last encounter. The youngster notched 91 off 48 balls with six fours and seven sixes. The superlative knock helped India ‘A’ put on 204 in their 20 overs and won them the match by 36 runs.

In the meantime, Congress Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor, lauded Samson for the heartfelt gesture towards the groundsmen. The staff at the venue has had a tough time in getting the ground ready for play. Tharoor said that such a quality sets Samson apart from the others.

Tharoor took to Twitter and wrote, “After his blistering 48-ball 91 vs SAfricaA, Thiruvananthapuram’s star cricketer SanjuSamson announced he was dedicating his match fees to the groundsmen, whose hard work on a wet ground had made play possible. That’s what sets Sanju apart from others: not just talent but spirit.”

Sanju Samson for number four?

Samson has a moderate average in 80 List A matches and he hasn’t even gotten a century in those games. However, his performances in the last one year has been impressive and can’t be dismissed out of sight. The right-hander racked up a century for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Gautam Gambhir, the former Indian cricketer, even wanted him to play the World Cup. Gambhir recently stated that Samson has the potential to bat even on moon’s south pole. He has got backing from Harbhajan Singh as well. Bhajji wants him to bat at number four in the national team.

“Why not Sanju Samson at number 4 in ODIs. With good technique and good head on his shoulders. Well played today anyways against SA A,” Harbhajan Singh tweeted.
