BCCI President and former India captain Sourav Ganguly, on Wednesday, took to Twitter to defend his daughter Sana Ganguly after her Instagram story related to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The Act, which was passed earlier this month, seeks to grant Indian citizenship to refugees from Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi communities fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, and who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.

However, there has been a widespread protest over the act as many think that the latest move from the central government is unconstitutional. In some places, the protests have also turned violent. The highlight of the protest has been the unfortunate turn of events at the Jamia Millia Islamia University where a clash erupted between the police and the students.

In the wake of the unfortunate incident, students from across the nation have come out in support of the Jamia Millia students. 18-year-old Sana Ganguly perhaps wanted to do the same but her views were a bit extreme. A snapshot of an Instagram story from her account was widely circulated among media outlets. She had shared an excerpt from Khushwant Singh’s book ‘The End of India’ and many publications labeled this post as a remark against the CAA.

“Every fascist regime needs communities and groups it can demonize in order to thrive. It starts with one group or two. But it never ends there. A movement built on hate can only sustain itself by continually creating fear and strife,” the first few lines of her Instagram story read.

Sourav Ganguly faces the heat

As Sana Ganguly’s name started doing the rounds on internet, Sourav Ganguly took to Twitter to defend her. The former India skipper urged everyone to keep Sana out of these issues while claiming the post was not true. Sourav Ganguly also added that his daughter is too young a girl to know about anything in politics.

“Please keep Sana out of all this issues .. this post is not true .. she is too young a girl to know about anything in politics,” Ganguly tweeted.

However, his message seems to have fallen on deaf ears as a number of users slammed him for defending his daughter.
