Hilton Cartwright had a decent day with the bat in the opening day of the Sheffield Shield 2021-22 match between Western Australia and South Australia at the Karen Rolton Oval, Adelaide, South Australia. After WA opted to bat first, the 29-year-old Cartwright came to bat at number five and scored 69 runs off 122 balls with the help of eight fours and three sixes.

One of his three sixes off Samuel Kerber was deemed one of the biggest sixes hit in the history of the first-class tournament. In the fourth ball of the 114th over during WA’s innings, Cartwright shimmed down the track and smashed the left-arm spinner downtown for a colossal six. The fielder at the boundary had no chance to catch the ball as he was a mere spectator.

Cartwright was batting on 29 off 88 when he played the audacious stroke down the ground. He got out in the 124th over after being dismissed by leg-spinner Lloyd Pope. WA went on to declare their innings at the score of 465 for the loss of nine wickets. Shaun Marsh and Cameron Green scored centuries and took their team to a respectable score in their first innings.

In four games for Australia, Cartwright went on to score 57 runs with a top score of 37.

Cartwright also has a fair amount of experience of playing in the Big Bash League. In 54 BBL matches, the right-hander has scored 924 runs at an average of 26.40 and a strike rate of 118.01. He has also scored five half-centuries in the T20 tournament.

He played 31 BBL matches for the Perth Scorchers before moving to the Melbourne Stars. In his career, Cartwright has taken part in 57 first-class, 56 List A and 64 T20s and scored five centuries and 26 half-centuries.
