A comparison has always been drawn between the two, thanks to the fact that they both started early. When Prithvi Shaw slammed a hundred in his debut Test against the Windies last October and then headed to Australia for his first tour Down Under, many saw in the episode a shadow of the 1991-92 season the great Sachin Tendulkar made his mark on the bouncy pitches.

Shaw though failed to play a single Test as he sustained an ankle injury on the eve of the first Test in Adelaide and was ruled out of the series that ended up as a historic one. Shaw remained out from cricket for some time and returned to competitive cricket in Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy in February. Thereafter, he played for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and opened the innings along with Shikhar Dhawan. Now, he is busy with engagement in the second season of T20 Mumbai League that started earlier this week.

Shaw, along with DC mate Shreyas Iyer were among the 11 players who were retained by their respective franchises. He was retained by North Mumbai Panthers franchise for this season and he is the team’s skipper. Shaw had a good start as the captain as his side beat Eagle Thane Strikers by six runs in the opening game. Though the right-hander himself could score only 22, something written on his bat caught all eyes.

You will be a legend one day

Despite the fact that Shaw couldn’t be consistent enough with the bat in the tournament, he seems to have impressed his opening partner Dhawan. It is speculated that Gabbar gifted him the bat and wrote a message on it. With a pen, Dhawan wrote: “You will be a legend one day”. For the fans, it was a message that caused great excitement and Shaw also made it a point to use the same willow as a boost whenever he took on the bowlers.

With India’s next Test assignment coming up only in August against the Windies, Shaw still has time off to resume his phenomenal batting on the international stage.
