Veteran Indian batsman Shikhar Dhawan is one of the batting mainstays of the Indian cricket team. With a plethora of cricket action coming up for the Indian team, the tole of Dhawan is set to be a big one in the team. India’s first assignment will be a one off Test against Afghanistan. He is one of the very few players in the team who represents the national side across the three formats of the game. At the moment, things sound like a dream run for the Delhi batsman.

However, it has not always been this way. There was a time when Dhawan was out of the Indian team and was even benched on a few occasions. In an episode of Breakfast With Champions, Shikhar Dhawan cited how such tough times shaped him to be a big player. He remarked that when he was benched, he realised he had a life outside cricket as well. He started taking things lightly and started to enjoy his game.

“If I’m destined to play for the national team then the opportunity will come my way. It is an eye opener when you get dropped from the team. When I was benched I realised that my life does not revolve only around cricket, I have different aspects as well. Family is the most important aspect to my life,” Shikhar Dhawan quoted.

“I don’t think much. My main goal in my life is to remain happy and it is very important for me to stay like that. Bhaad mein jaaye (let it be),” he added funnily.

With the deep thoughts

Commenting further on similar lines, Shikhar Dhawan conceded that he gets into the deep thinking mode at times. He always wanted to play for India. Now that he is playing for the national side, he thinks what is in store for him next.

“When I’m dropped I often ponder about what is more important for me. Since I’ve already played for India (not that I don’t have cricket left in me, I have lots of cricket left in me), what else it left? Do I remain sad and crib about being dropped or do I move on,” conceded the veteran cricketer.
