Shoaib Malik and Imran Tahir to unite after 11 years in PSL 3

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) went gone all guns blazing in their effort to revive international cricket in the terror-hit nation. And as a result of their pertinence, they have received an overwhelming response which saw the nation successfully host a PSL final, a World XI series and bilateral game with neighbours Sri Lanka.

With things looking positive, the third edition of the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to kick off next year and is expected to become bigger. The new edition also features the inclusion of its newest franchise, Multan Sultans.

The player draft for PSL 3 was recently held in Lahore and the Multan franchise roped in some big names in the cricketing circuit. The franchise will be mentored by legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram, will be led by Pakistan senior batsman Shoaib Malik who will be seen alongside South Africa’s Imran Tahir. As an interesting fact, Malik and Tahir will play together after 11 years. The duo last played together for PIA in 2006.

Lynn and Tahir, top picks in the player draft

Swashbuckling Australian batsman Chris Lynn and Protea legspinner Tahir were the top picks in the player draft. While Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans picked their top players in the first round, it was Islamabad United along with Lahore that finished looking menacing, on paper at least, given the depth of their squads.

It will be a second homecoming for the Lahore-born spinner who was initially selected during trials to represent the Pakistan U19 cricket team. He then progressed onto the Pakistan A side on donned the national outfit on some tours but was unable to move to make it big.

However, the leg-spinner went on to represent South Africa making his international debut in 2011, becoming one of the spinners in world cricket.
