In the latest turn of events, Indian skipper Virat Kohli has decided to step down from the T20I captaincy after T20 World Cup. It was in talks for quite some days that Kohli hasn’t been able to give his best in the white-ball format and the workload was affecting his batting too. As soon as the decision came to the fore, fans and experts started pouring in their opinions, and next in line is former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan.
Pathan called the decision ‘shocking’ firstly and then went on to add that decision is a little surprising as there are one after the other World Cups coming. In the same line, Kohli could have left his great legacy in the white-ball format. Pathan added that there is no comparison of Kohli in the Test format as his energy and performances have been great.
“Guys, Virat Kohli has decided to step down from the T20I captaincy after T20 World Cup. Shocking because there are World Cups one after the other and he could have left a great legacy in the white-ball format.
“There is no match of Kohli in the Test cricket as his energy is amazing. However, I just hope that Indian wins the T20 World Cup where Kohli will be leading India,” said Pathan while speaking on a video on his Instagram handle.

Pathan further added that Kohli has kept India on no one pedestal for five straight years and he just wishes that India wins the T20 World Cup in the UAE where he would be leading India in the T20 format for probably the last time. Not only a skipper is a leader but a great player is also a leader, reckoned Pathan. It has to be noted that the RCB skipper decided to quit his role after a lot of discussion with Ravi Shastri and Rohit Sharma.
It has been highly expected that senior batsman Sharma will take India’s charge in T20Is after Kohli decides to move away. It remains to be seen if India can win the high-profile tournament in the UAE as Kohli still awaits an ICC Trophy under his rule.
