Shreyas Iyer being rewarded for prolific performances in all forms, says MSK Prasad

Chief Selector MSK Prasad, after announcing the T20I series squad and the Test squad for matches against New Zealand and Sri Lanka respectively, claimed that Mumbai ace batsman Shreyas Iyer has been rewarded for his prolific performances in all formats.

The selector then asserted that the board will help him nurture at International level by providing him with an extended run. The other new name apart from Shreyas Iyer in the T20I squad is Hyderabad pacer Mohammad Siraj. Both received their maiden call-up into the national side for the 3-match series against New Zealand which starts next week.

Meanwhile, Murali Vijay, who last played the 4th Test match against Australia at Dharmasala, makes a comeback into the side for the Test matches against Sri Lanka which starts November 16. After BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary addressed the media while making the announcement of the squad, chief selector MSK Prasad stressed that Iyer and Siraj were rewarded for their prolific performances in domestic cricket, IPL and India A set-ups.

The Board President’s XI for the two-day warm-up game against Sri Lankans and the first two of the three Tests against Sri Lanka were also announced simultaneously.

“Shreyas has been prolific in all forms of the game, be it Test, ODI, T20, IPL, name anything he is performing, so we will stick with this policy; if we pick a player we will give him an extended run and we will continue with him for some point and nurture him and see that he goes on to become successful. Siraj is also doing well and has been duly rewarded,” commented Prasad according to Sportstarlive.
