Mumbai Ranji team stalwart Siddhesh Lad continues to be one of the most consistent performers in the domestic circuit. Rising through age-group cricket, Lad made his first-class debut in the 2013-14 and has not looked back since then. He has now become the batting mainstay of the Mumbai side and is being hailed as their crisis man. He finished the last season of Ranji Trophy as Mumbai’s highest run-scorer.

The right-handed batsman started the first-class season with 88 and 68 for India Red in the Duleep Trophy before impressing for Mumbai. After scoring a flurry of the fifties, he scored two centuries – 130 against Baroda and 108 versus Saurashtra although Mumbai failed to do well. He finished the season with 652 runs with two centuries and four half-centuries.

The year then became only better for him as he made his much-awaited debut in the Indian Premier League. He with the Mumbai Indians for the last five seasons, but ended up warming the bench all throughout. Lad finally got the chance this year when Rohit Sharma missed the clash against Kings XI Punjab and Lad opened the innings. It was a memorable debut as Lad hit the first ball of his IPL career for a six although he failed to score big.

Lad, however, had a disappointing outing in the T20 Mumbai League. He failed to lead Shivaji Park Lions from the front as the last year’s runners-up endured a terrible season. Shivaji Park Lions lost all of their five league games and ended at the bottom of the points table of the eight-team tournament. But the right-handed batsman bounced back in style as he impressed for India A. In the unofficial two Tests against Sri Lanka A, he scored 76, 32 and 58 as India A thrashed the tourists in both the games.

Second innings for Lad

The Mumbai star, meanwhile, is all geared up to start a new inning in his life. On Thursday, he tied the knot with his girlfriend Hiral Khatri. While Lad or his better half is yet to make the news public, the cricketer’s T20 Mumbai League side revealed the news on Instagram.
