The second Test of the ongoing series between hosts Sri Lanka and Pakistan has been shifted to Galle from the capital city, Colombo, amidst the turmoil in the country. The first Test between the two subcontinent sides commenced on 16th July, Saturday, in Galle.

The decision to move the second Test came in the wake of recent events in the island nation, which saw protesters invade the residence of the former President of the country, eventually leading to his resignation. The Prime Minister of the country is currently acting as the interim President, while the country decides on its next President in the forthcoming days.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced the change in venue for the second Test on Sunday after consultation with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as it would help in the smooth conduct of the ongoing series. The first Test is currently being played in Galle, and the squads will remain at the venue for the second Test as well.

The first Test between the two sides is evenly poised after two days of play and fans could be in for a thrilling early finish in the series opener. Pakistani skipper Babar Azam stole the show with his magnificent Test ton after Prabath Jayasuriya’s third consecutive five-wicket haul.

‘Lanka Premier League 2022 will be postponed, with immediate effect’: SLC

The ongoing crisis in the country has forced the SLC to postpone the Lanka Premier League as the rights holders of the tournament did not believe it was the appropriate time to hold the tournament in the country. The third edition of the tournament was due to commence on the 1st of August, with the final being played on the 21st of August.

“Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) wishes to announce that the Lanka Premier League 2022, which was scheduled to be held from 1st to 21st August 2022 will be postponed, with immediate effect,” SLC said in a statement on Sunday.

In another major setback, Sri Lanka is most likely to miss out on the chance of hosting the Asia Cup later this year, scheduled in August-September, with the UAE being the possible new destination for the tournament. Although the PCB had backed the island nation earlier, it seems a mere formality that Sri Lanka will lose out on hosting the tournament.
