The format might have changed but the Sri Lankan women just haven’t been able to find solace or come up with the right combination to beat England. England has hardly broken a sweat through the tour and would be looking to continue their dominance and rip through the hapless Sri Lankan team come Tuesday.
England, led by Heather Knight, has been in rich vein of T20 form – previously beating India (3-0). On the other hand, Sri Lanka won their last T20 bilateral tournament dating back to 2014 against Pakistan. Victories have been few and far between.
Venue: Colts Cricket Club, Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Team news –
England
England would like to retain the same playing eleven for the game and continue their dominance over the Lankans and thereafter give the reserves an opportunity to showcase their talents. As things stand, we don’t anticipate changes in this English unit.
Linsey Smith made a magnificent comeback after being rested for the 3rd ODI returning with figures of 3 for 18 in 4 overs, while the experienced Tammy Beaumont scored a quick fire 50 (43) to take her team home comfortably.
Likely Playing XI –
England
Tammy Beaumont, Danielle Wyatt, Amy Ellen Jones, Heather Knight, Natalie Sciver, Lauren Winfield, Sophia Dunkley Brown, Anya Shrubsole, Laura Marsh, Linsey Smith, Freya Davies.
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka seem to be down and out through the entire course of this series, losing the ODI series(0-3) and now, not showing any resistance against the might of England in the first T20 as well. They’d quickly want to pull their socks up, huddle and perform as a team if they are to make any impact in the 2nd T20I.
Likely Playing XI –
Athapaththu (C), Sanjeewani (WK), Kulasuriya, Hasini, Siriwardene, Imalka, Nilakshi, Ranasinghe, Kumari, Ranaweera and Hansima.
Hot picks
Natalie Sciver: The English all-rounder has been a mainstay and has been consistently giving her side constant breakthrough in the middle overs and also by providing solidarity in batting by coming 2-down
Tammy Beaumont: She started her career as wicket keeper-batter for her state side Kent but soon she gave up on her gloves to concentrate on her batting. Ever since, she has been opening the batting for England in the shortest format of the game and excelling at the job. She scored a 50 in the previous game and she’d want to continue to impress with a stellar show once again come this Tuesday
Chamari Atapattu: There are not a lot of bright spots in this current Sri Lankan line up but if they are to make a comeback in the series they would want their captain Chamari Atapattu to stand up, take responsibility and led the team by example. A performance like the one in Women’s ODI World Cup where she put together 178 (143) can lift the morale of the team and ensure they sail over the finishing line
Amy Jones: The wicketkeeper batter showed she’s got the goods to deliver and given that she bats at number 3 and the fact that Dani Wyatt hasn’t been great form, the chances of her scoring runs are highly probable.
