Smriti Mandhana is presently one of the most reliable batswomen in the Indian lineup. She treads an attacking approach while batting and hardly allows the bowlers to dictate terms to her. She has flourished in both forms of limited-overs cricket- ODI and T20Is. Mandhana was a part of the national team, which progressed to the Final of the 2017 Women’s World Cup against England at Lord’s in London.

The Maharashtra-born cricketer is the only Indian women with ODI centuries in Australia, England, and South Africa. Her maiden ton in the 50-overs format came in 2016 in Hobart. Her second century came against the Windies in Taunton. She scored her third century when the Women in Blue toured South Africa earlier this year. Her knock of 135 runs helped her team to a thumping victory by 178 runs in Kimberley.

She also played for the Brisbane Heat in the 2016 Women’s Big Bash League and was one of the two Indian players along with Harmanpreet Kaur to take part in the T20 event. She has turned 22 today and the cricketing fraternity showered her with wishes. Recently, she featured in an interview by Cricbuzz where she talked about the people who inspired her to take up the sport.

He is scoring a huge amount of runs- Mandhana on Virat

“Everyone inspires me to be my better self. I can’t give you any names, but initially, Kumar Sangakkara and Matthew Hayden did inspire me to take up batting. So I think, both are among my inspirers,” Mandhana mentioned.

Virat Kohli has been a prolific run scorer for the men’s team and Mandhana wants him to play cricket forever. “Right now how Kohli is going, he should never retire for India because he is scoring a huge amount of runs and he should keep on playing, score runs and win matches for his team,” the left-handed batswoman added.

The 22-year-old, apart from her cricketing prowess, also spoke about Mandhana- the person. “I’m very naughty at home. People feel I’m very sincere. I watch a lot of movies and many of them don’t know about it. And I’m an open person. I don’t think anyone doesn’t know anything about me,” she remarked.

Meanwhile, she finds Australian fast-bowler Mitchell Starc as menacing owing to his lethal pace and venom. She named him as the bowler she doesn’t want to face. “Mitchell Starc. Hopefully, we don’t have to play against the men. He bowls at 150 kmph and lethal Yorkers,” she mentioned while hailing the Aussie speedster.
