Indian skipper Virat Kohli boasts of a staggering fan base and it reflects on his social media account. With 35,872,936 fans on his official Facebook page, he has become the most followed cricketer on Facebook. The Delhi-born star is just behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the race for the most followed Indian celebrity. The likes of Bollywood Superstars Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone fall short of Kohli when it comes to the number of likes on Facebook.

But the Indian captain has been beaten by women cricketer Smriti Mandhana in as far as the ‘Fastest Growing Sports Star’ is concerned. If statistics are to be believed, in the month of July Smriti Mandhan has got a massive number of fans following her on social media which is way more than that of Virat Kohli’s. While Kohli earned a number of 56,255 fans during this time, Mandhana saw her fan base get boosted by 2,58,687 people. Mandhana’s fan base increased at a rate of 710.01 percent in the month of July while Kohli’s rate of increase was 0.18 percent.

Background:

Smriti Mandhana was an integral part of the Indian women’s team that went to the finals of the recently concluded ICC Women’s World Cup. She started the tournament with a flyer by scoring 90 in the first match against England. The 21-year-old followed it up with a magnificent hundred against the West Indies but lost her magic touch after that. She was significantly poor in the rest of the tournament as she struggled to move out of the single digits. However, her cute smile and charming looks went viral on all social networking platforms making her the latest craze in the nation.

Though India could not cross the final hurdle against England, they had an incredible journey. It was a fairytale for the team as they reached the World Cup finals for the second time.
