Aakash Chopra talks of Bangladesh’s 'disappointing' form in World Cup 2023, questions Netherlands' future plans

The ODI World Cup 2023 has been full of ups and downs for various sides. With the tournament well underway, the fans are starting to get an idea of the teams that will further progress into the competition’s knockout stages and which teams could potentially miss out.

Apart from the excellent performances, there have been a few teams that have failed to perform as expected. Namely, Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh is one side that has put in disappointing performances in the tournament so far. Finding themselves in ninth place in the standings, Bangladesh have only won one game out of the six that they have played.

Speaking of the side’s poor performance, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra took to social media to opine that with the tournament being in India, the hopes from Bangladesh are heightened, and their poor performances are more disappointing.

“A World Cup in the subcontinent ignites hope for the teams from this region... Therefore, Bangladesh’s poor returns are a lot more disappointing,” Aakash Chopra tweeted.

Furthermore, Chopra heaped massive praise on the Netherlands. Currently sitting in eighth place in the standings, the Netherlands have managed to win two out of the six games that they have played so far. Speaking of their form, Chopra opined that they should get every praise possible but also questioned their plans for a bilateral series after the ODI World Cup 2023.

“And while we are on the subject of appreciating the Netherlands (which we all should) I’d like to know what’s in store for them next 12 months. How many bilateral ODI cricket series are planned?? Especially against teams like Australia, England, India, SA, NZ, etc. Inclusivity can’t be once-in-four-year project!!!” Aakash Chopra tweeted.

For their next assignment, the Netherlands will be going up against Afghanistan. Both sides will face off against each other in the 34th game of the tournament at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday, November 3.
