Rohit Sharma scored his seventh ODI World Cup century during India's match against Afghanistan, on Wednesday, October 11. No other player has more centuries in the history of the marquee event than the India captain.

After India's dominating eight-wicket win, VVS Laxman shared an old tweet where Rohit had expressed his disappointment after missing out on selection to India's ODI World Cup 2011 squad. The former India cricket wrote in the caption how the 'Never ever give up' mantra worked wonders for the elegant Mumbai batter.

"From this in 2011, to becoming the highest ever century maker in World Cup History, scoring 7 hundreds in just 2 World Cups plus 2 matches, just proves again that “Never ever give up” and that Champions find a way to live their dream," Laxman wrote on his 'X' handle.

India decimate Afghanistan, Build momentum ahead of Pakistan game in ODI World Cup 2023

Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and opted to bat first against India in Delhi, on Wednesday, October 11. The Indian bowlers did well to restrict Afghanistan to 272/8 in their allotted 50 overs on a pitch that seemed to have no demons.

In reply, the Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, took the Afghan bowlers to the cleaners, amassing 131 runs off just 84 balls. The 36-year-old hit 16 fours and five sixes during his swashbuckling knock. Ishan Kishan started slowly but managed to up the ante towards the latter half of his innings of 47 in as many deliveries. The in-form Virat Kohli came out to bat at the fall of Ishan's wicket and played a polished knock of 55 off 56 balls in front of his home crowd and took India home alongside Shreyas Iyer (25 off 23 balls). The former two-time world champions won the ODI World Cup 2023 game by eight wickets with 15 overs to spare.

This was India's second win in the campaign and they will now shift focus to the highly-anticipated clash against Pakistan, in Ahmedabad, on October 14. Pakistan are also going to play that game on the back of two consecutive wins and it promises to be a humdinger.
