Dewald Brevis produced one of the moments of The Hundred 2026 at Lord's Cricket Ground on August 9, striking a 97-metre no-look six that drew widespread attention for its sheer audacity. The shot arrived during London Spirit's successful chase of Birmingham Phoenix's total of 162 for four, with Spirit reaching their target in 82 balls to win by seven wickets with 18 balls to spare, finishing on 166 for three. Brevis finished unbeaten on 55 off 31 balls, his maiden fifty in The Hundred.

Birmingham Phoenix innings: slow start, late acceleration

Jonny Bairstow fell early for 10 off three balls, but captain Liam Livingstone and Brevis then combined for a partnership of 103 runs, London Spirit's highest for any wicket in The Hundred, surpassing the previous record of 96 set between Shimron Hetmyer and Keaton Jennings. Livingstone reached his fifty off just 21 balls and finished with 66 off 30 balls, also clearing the boundary for a six measured at 104 metres.

Birmingham Phoenix had posted 162 for four from their 100 balls. Their innings was shaped by a slow opening phase, with only 25 runs coming from the 25-ball powerplay, before they accelerated sharply to add 109 runs from their final 50 deliveries. Wicketkeeper-batter Joe Clarke top-scored with 73 off 42 balls, hitting four fours and five sixes. Sean Dickson contributed an unbeaten 51 off 28 balls, while Mitchell Owen, Joe Weatherley and Laurie Evans all made single-figure scores.

London Spirit's chase and the Livingstone-Brevis partnership

In the Spirit bowling attack, Adam Milne claimed 1 for 36 and made an early breakthrough. Spinners James Coles and Mason Crane worked well through the middle overs, and for the Phoenix, Usman Tariq was economical throughout, conceding just 13 runs from his 20 balls.

The victory was also the first time London Spirit had beaten Birmingham Phoenix since The Hundred began five years ago. For Phoenix, it was a sixth defeat in seven matches, leaving them at the foot of the group-stage table. Both sides had already been eliminated from knockout contention before this fixture.
