Skipper Babar Azam has posted a cryptic tweet after he received backlash for Pakistan’s poor show in the second Test match against England in Multan, which they lost by 26 runs despite being in a winning position. The loss has not only taken the series away from Pakistan but has also ended their WTC final qualification hopes.

While Babar scored 75 in the first innings, he was sent back for just one off 10 deliveries in the second. The Pakistani captain was booed all the way to the pavilion by an angry home crowd with ‘Zimbabar’ chants.

Babar Azam posts cryptic tweet after Pakistan’s Test series loss

Taking to his official Twitter handle, Babar Azam wrote, “Do not let compliments go to your head and criticism to your heart”.

Despite trying his best to excel as a batter and a leader, the 28-year-old has been getting brickbats constantly. Notably, he has been performing well with the bat across formats and his captaincy in white-ball cricket has been impressive as Pakistan reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup last year and also made it into the finals of Asia Cup and T20 World Cup this year.

However, his red-ball captaincy has been under scrutiny after Pakistan lost two successive home Test series this year. The first one came against Australia in March and the recent one happens to be against England.

While addressing the media after the second Test, a journalist had suggested that he and Mohammad Rizwan should focus on T20Is following Pakistan’s heartbreaking loss in Multan. An irate Babar then countered the reporter asking whether they need to quit playing Test cricket.

Having lost the series, Pakistan would be hoping to salvage pride and avoid a humiliating whitewash when they host England in the third and final Test in Karachi from December 17.
