In a heartbreaking turn of events, Afghanistan has been rocked by a series of powerful earthquakes, leaving devastation and despair in their wake. As we all think of the people affected, former Afghanistan cricket captain Asghar Afghan has taken to social media to make an emotional plea.

"Dear ICC International Cricket Council! I am writing to you on behalf of the individuals and communities affected by the recent devastating earthquakes in Herat Afghanistan. The widespread destruction and loss of life have left these people in dire need of support and assistance," Afghan tweeted.

“As an organization representing the global cricket community, I strongly urge you to express your heartfelt sympathy and solidarity with those who are impacted by earthquakes. This gesture of empathy will not only provide solace during these challenging times but also demonstrate our collective commitment to standing with those in need,” he said.

Furthermore, Asgar requested the ICC to encourage the cricket players, teams, and franchises to come together and organize initiatives to collect aid for the earthquake-affected people in Afghanistan.

“Whether it be financial contributions, relief supplies, or volunteering efforts, every contribution can make a significant difference in alleviating the hardships faced by these communities. Mohammad Nabi & Rashid Khan, Two Afghan Cricket Stars, could serve as valuable references for these aid and charity efforts, considering their representation of Afghanistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup,” Asgar added.

The earthquakes, with one measuring 6.3 magnitudes, struck approximately 35 kilometres northwest of the city of Herat, causing widespread panic. The death toll, as per the National Disaster Management Authority, has climbed to a staggering 2,053, with 9,240 reported injuries.

This devastating earthquake is one of the worst to hit Afghanistan in decades. The international cricket community is now being called upon to demonstrate solidarity and provide much-needed aid to the afflicted. Beyond sympathy, financial contributions, relief supplies, and volunteering efforts are urgently required.
