Delhi Capitals Women (DC-W) registered their third consecutive win in Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 with a 25-run victory over Gujarat Giants Women on Sunday, March 3 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Left-arm spinner Radha Yadav (3/20) and Jess Jonassen (3/22) starred with the ball for Delhi by picking three wickets each and helped their side defend a total of 163.

Following her three-wicket haul, Yadav shared the lead as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament, having claimed seven scalps in four matches. After her match-winning show, Yadav had a fun post-match chat with Jemimah Rodrigues where the latter revealed that the left-arm spinner watches Virat Kohli’s aggression videos before every game.

“It’s important to be pumped up, he’s my idol. I always watch him before a game to see the kind of passion he plays with. I can relate to him a lot. That’s why I watch him,” said Yadav in a video posted by WPL’s X Handle.

Coming back to the match, Yadav came into the attack in the eighth over of the chase and got rid of Veda Krishnamurthy (12 off 13), a rather soft dismissal to be honest. She further dismissed Kathryn Bryce (3 off 6) by trapping her in front of the stumps. The left-arm orthodox perfectly set up Tanuja Kanwar in her last over as she attempted a reverse-sweep, only to spoon it to the fielder at short-third.

Her 3-fer helped her become the joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament along with Amelia Kerr as the duo have seven wickets each to their names. However, since Yadav has a better economy rate of 6.41 than Kerr’s 7.60, she will get to wear the purple cap on the ground while playing until someone surpasses her.

Meanwhile, earlier in the first innings, skipper Meg Lanning led Delhi to post a decently competitive score of 163/8 in their allotted 20 overs. However, it was Jes Jonassen who was awarded Player of the Match for scoring 11 (7) and picking 3/22 in four overs.
