India registered a convincing seven-wicket win over a hapless South Africa in the third and final One Day International at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday, October 11. By the virtue of this win, the hosts have sealed the series 2-1.

The Proteas who performed really well with the bat in the last two matches looked very lackluster in the decider as the famed batting line-up put on an ordinary performance. However, it was the spirited Indian bowlers who ensured that there was no run-fest from the visitors on the big day. They bowled a good line and length to ensure that the South Africans did not even breach the three figure-mark.

India outclass South Africa in the decider

Batting first, South Africa did not get the kind of start that they would have hoped for as they lost their three key players Quinton de Kock, Janneman Malan, and, Reeza Hendricks and were reduced to 26/3 in the 10th over. Meanwhile, the Indian bowlers showed no signs of complacency after domintating in the Powerplay as they kept gunning for wickets.

With the Proteas losing wickets at regular intervals, only middle-order sensation Heinrich Klaasen fought back for them with a valiant 34. Unfortunately for the South Africans, he was the lone warrior for them and did not receive any support from the other end.

Except for tail-ender Marco Jansen (14), no one else could make any contributions with the bat as South Africa were bundled out for just 99 in the 28th over. Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers for India with figures of 4/18 while Shahbaz Ahmed, Washington Sundar, and, Mohammed Siraj picked up two wickets each.

In reply, India were always the favourites but they too lost wickets of skipper Shikhar Dhawan, Ishan Kishan and a well-set Shubman Gill (49). Nonetheless, Shreyas Iyer's unbeaten 23-ball 28 helped India get over the line in the 20th over. For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi and Bjorn Fortuin picked up a wicket each.
