The fans got to witness another cricketing masterclass in the action-packed Indian Premier League 2023 as Chennai Super Kings locked horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad in match 29 on Friday, April 21, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. CSK captain MS Dhoni won the toss and invited SRH to bat first.
Hyderabad openers Harry Brook and Abhishek Sharma started the innings well and added 35 runs for the first wicket in 4.2 overs. Akash Singh got the first strike for SRH as he dismissed the dangerous Brook for 18 in the fifth over.
Following his dismissal Rahul Tripathi came to the crease and stitched a 36-run stand with Sharma, who was taking the attack to the bowlers. However, Ravindra Jadeja ended the partnership by dismissing Sharma for 34 off 26 balls.
He further dismissed Tripathi and Mayank Agarwal to leave SRH reeling at 95/5 after 13.5 overs. At the other end, Maheesh Theekshana got the prized scalp of SRH captain Aiden Markram. Heinrich Klaasen also couldn’t get going and lost his wicket against Matheesha Pathirana after scoring 17 off 16 balls.
SRH could never recover from the collapse and could only reach 134/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for CSK as he picked 3/22 in four overs.
Devon Conway guides CSK home with his brilliant 77*
In reply, CSK openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway came out all guns blazing and scored 60 runs in the powerplay as SRH bowlers had no answers to their onslaught. Their magnificent partnership finally ended on 87 as Conway played a straight drive that brushed Umran Malik’s fingers and went on to hit the stumps at the non-striker’s end with Gaikwad out of the crease.
Gaikwad departed after scoring 35 off 30 balls, and Ajinkya Rahane joined Conway at the crease. Rahane also departed cheaply after scoring nine off ten balls as he edged Mayank Markande to first slip. Things got a bit tense at the end as CSK further lost their third wicket in the form of Ambati Rayudu. However, Devon Conway (77* off 57) and Moeen Ali (6* off 6) took CSK home in the 19th over. As a result, CSK won the match by seven wickets and eight balls to spare.
