IPL 2023: MS Dhoni uses John Cena's iconic gesture to turn down Maheesh Theekshana's DRS request during LSG vs CSK clash

MS Dhoni imitated John Cena's iconic action while denying a DRS request to Maheesh Theekshana during the IPL 2023 match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Lucknow Super Giants at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on May 3. Notably, the match was called off due to rain as both teams shared one point each. 

CSK captain Dhoni won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first. Manan Vohra and Kyle Mayers opened the LSG innings as skipper KL Rahul was ruled out due to an injury sustained during LSG's previous match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Meanwhile, Maheesh Theekshana rapped Vohra on the pads in the sixth over and appealed, but umpire Anil Choudhary ruled it not out. The bowler then turned to Dhoni, but the CSK skipper was not convinced and did an action that resembled the WWE star John Cena's 'You can't see me' action. It could be that Dhoni was suggesting that he did not see where the ball landed as his view was obstructed.

Rain interrupts LSG vs CSK clash

LSG batters struggled throughout the match thanks to CSK bowlers' clinical performance. When almost every batter had difficulty with the bat, Ayush Badoni came in and delivered a quick-fire knock as he scored his first half-century of the season to help LSG reach 125.

He smashed an unbeaten 59 off 33 balls, including two fours and four sixes. However, rain disrupted and halted play in the final over, with LSG batting at 125/7 after 19.2 overs. The game was later abandoned owing to heavy rain. However, each team will be awarded one point.

Chennai Super Kings will next face Mumbai Indians in Chennai on May 6 while Lucknow Super Giants will play Gujarat Titans on May 7 in Ahmedabad.
