Team India’s dominant run finally came to an end in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as they were beaten by Australia in the final of the tournament on Sunday, November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After being put in to bat first, the Rohit Sharma-led side failed to come to terms with the slowness of the wicket and scored a below-par total of 240 in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, Australia comfortably chased down the target in 43 overs and won the match by six wickets to clinch their sixth World Cup title.

While the day of the final was a forgettable one for all Indian fans, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan had a moment to cheer about as his son Imran and nephews Ayaan and Raiyaan stood with the Indian team for the national anthem ahead of the final. Pathan shared the joyful moment with his fans as he shared a photograph where his son and nephew were seen standing in front of Suryakumar Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj respectively.

Coming back to the match, India got off to a good start as captain Rohit Sharma once again played a quickfire knock of 47 (31). However, the middle and lower order failed to score on a slow wicket as KL Rahul (66 off 107), Suryakumar Yadav (18 off 28) and Ravindra Jadeja (9 off 22) couldn’t get their innings going.

However, a massive 192-run stand between Travis Head (137 off 120) and Marnus Labuschagne (58 off 110) helped their team get over the line and clinch their sixth ODI World Cup title.
