The 26th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 took place at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, featuring a clash between Australia and New Zealand. New Zealand won the toss and chose to field first.
During the chase, New Zealand managed to keep themselves in the game, keeping the required run rate in check for most of the time. However, the dismissal of Rachin Ravindra proved to be costly for them, as the other batters struggled under pressure.
James Neesham, the all-rounder, displayed a never-give-up attitude and fought till the very end. At one point, it seemed like he would single-handedly win the game for his country with a brilliant knock of 58 runs off just 39 balls. Unfortunately, he got run out on the second last ball of the final over, and New Zealand fell short by five runs as Australia emerged victorious.
After the loss, an old tweet from Neesham resurfaced and went viral. In the tweet, he advised young kids not to pursue sports as a career option. Instead, he suggested they should take up baking or something else and enjoy a happy and carefree life. This tweet was posted after New Zealand's heartbreaking loss to England in the finals of the previous ODI World Cup in 2019, where England won on the boundary count rule.
