Coming to the match, India won the toss and elected to bowl first. Pakistan had a cautious start, with Imam-ul-Haq hitting Mohammad Siraj for three boundaries in the very first over. However, the Indian bowlers tightened their grip on the game after that. Pakistan only managed to score five runs from Jasprit Bumrah's three overs, as they were cautious against him. After ten overs, Pakistan were 49/1.
Despite being expensive, Siraj provided India with their first breakthrough. He bowled a cross-seam delivery that kept a touch low, resulting in Abdullah Shafique being trapped plumb in front. Shafique did not waste a review and walked back to the pavilion. At this point, Pakistan were 41/1.
As the team sheet for the match was announced, Indian fans were treated with the great news that the young star batter, Shubman Gill was all set to play in this important match. Shubman’s brilliant record at this venue makes him a real threat to any opposition team, and he will be a key batter for India’s chase in this match.
It is worth mentioning that Pakistan have never beaten India in the ODI World Cup. The record currently stands at 7-0 in favour of India. Taking into account the T20 World Cups as well, the record becomes 13-1 in favour of India. Pakistan will be eager to rectify this record and will be boosted by their recent successful run chase against Sri Lanka. They successfully chased down a target close to 350 runs in Hyderabad. However, India will also be riding high on confidence after their victories against Australia and Afghanistan in the tournament so far.
