While Rajasthan Royals have been doing perfectly well in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023, the tournament hasn't been all roses for skipper Sanju Samson. While RR have consistently been adorning the top levels on the IPL 2023 Points Table, Samson has been noted struggling to find himself among the runs.
Samson once again fell cheaply in Match 42 of the tournament against Mumbai Indians, having scored only 14 runs off 10 balls. He smashed one four and one six apiece to bring up the runs at a strike rate of 140, before being dismissed by 20-year-old Arshad Khan in the 10th over. Arshad picked a total of three wickets to finish as the highest wicket-taker for MI in the match.
On the other hand, Sanju continues to traverse on his string of low scores in the season as he has failed to live up to his name baring a few occasions, the most notable being his 60-run knock against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. His scores in the last seven innings are 14, 17, 22, 2, 60, 0 and 0.
Yashasvi Jaiswal brings up his maiden IPL century to help RR breach the 200-run mark against MI
India's young batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal brought up his maiden IPL century in the match against Mumbai Indians to help RR post a total of 212/7. Jaiswal played through all 20 overs and was looking good to carry the bat throughout but eventually fell prey to Arshad Khan in the third last ball of the inning after mistiming a full toss which was grabbed by Arshad himself.
However, Jaiswal made sure to inflict the damage before his dismissal as he scored a humongous 124 off just 62 deliveries at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 200. He looked to be on a mission right from the word go as he smashed 16 fours and eight sixes to bring up his immoral knock. With this knock, he overtook Faf du Plessis to don the Orange Cap after climbing to the top of the list of highest run scorers.
Apart from Jaiswal, no other RR batter could contribute much, with Jos Buttler's 18, Samson's 14 and Jason Holder's 11 being the only other double-digit scores for the visitors.
