Forgetful day for India in what was perfect World Cup campaign otherwise
Team India entered the championship clash against Australia riding an impressive 10-match winning streak at the ICC showpiece. Opting to bat first, they set a below par total of 240 runs, fuelled by Rohit Sharma's brisk 47 off 31 balls, followed by Virat Kohli's determined 55 off 63 deliveries and KL Rahul's conservative 66 off 107 balls.
India's bowling commenced promisingly with Shami's early dismissal of David Warner in the second over, but it was Bumrah's crucial scalps of Steve Smith and Mitchell Marsh that intensified India's grip, reducing Australia to 47 for three in the seventh over. However, the tables turned when Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne formed an unwavering 192-run partnership, steering Australia towards victory.
Despite India's initial breakthroughs, Head and Labuschagne's resilient stand shifted the momentum decisively in Australia's favour, thwarting India's aspirations of maintaining their victorious streak in the summit clash. The Australian duo's partnership proved to be the turning point, propelling them to a commanding position and sealing the title for the men from down under.
