MS Dhoni to lead CSK in IPL 2023
It is a no-brainer that Mahendra Singh Dhoni will continue to lead the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2023 as he had made it clear during CSK’s final IPL 2022 fixture that he will be available for the next season and wishes to play in front of an electrifying Chennai crowd.
However, it does remain to be seen whether this will turn out to be the 2011 World Cup-winning skipper’s final IPL season as a player. Dhoni turned 41 in July this year and should this edition of the marquee tournament be his swansong, he would be hoping to end his illustrious career by leading CSK to a record-equaling fifth IPL crown.
Meanwhile, the Chennai Super Kings have finalized their list of retained and released players and have a purse of INR 20.45 Crore heading into the IPL 2023 mini-auction which is scheduled to take place in Kochi on December 23. They would now be hoping to use that money to make some smart long-term investments on the auction day.
Earlier, there were several reports circulating that MS Dhoni could be made India’s T20I coach with an eye on the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the Caribbean. These rumours were doing rounds days after the Indian team’s semifinal exit from the 2022 T20 World Cup down under.
