'Nothing will give me more pleasure than to lift IPL trophy with Virat Kohli' - AB de Villiers makes special promise
"Mark my words, if RCB makes it to the final, I will be there at the stadium with the boys," AB de Villiers said.
AB de Villiers promised to be in the stands for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final if Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) make it through. The legendary South African cricketer spent 11 seasons for the Bengaluru-based franchise and continues to be an ardent fan.
de Villiers shares a special bond with RCB fans as well as the iconic Virat Kohli, who has been an integral part of the franchise since its inception. Both players forged some memorable partnerships during their days at RCB as their friendship went from strength to strength.
The former Proteas captain said that nothing will give him more pleasure than to lift the coveted IPL trophy alongside Kohli on June 3.
“Mark my words, if RCB makes it to the final, I will be there at the stadium with the boys. Nothing will give me more pleasure than to lift that trophy with Virat Kohli. I've tried that for many many years,” said de Villiers during an Instagram Live session.

RCB have been having a phenomenal season in IPL 2025 under first-time captain Rajat Patidar. They are placed at No. 2 on the points table, having won eight games and lost three out of the 11 they have played so far. RCB are set to face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, May 17.
A win in this clash will take them through to the playoffs with two league games left. However, the start of the match is likely to be delayed as it has been raining heavily in Bengaluru in the lead-up to the encounter. KKR will be desperate for this match to take place as they have reached a do-or-die stage as far as progress to the playoffs is concerned.
