England are all set to take on New Zealand in the opening match of the ICC Cricket World Cup on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Notably, England head to an ODI World Cup as defending champions.
During the press conference ahead of the game, England captain Jos Buttler was asked a bizarre question on the side’s roster. A media person asked him about the impact on England's bowling with no James Anderson in the squad and Stuart Broad recently retired. Buttler gave a witty response to the question and also said that the squad comprises an adequate number of bowlers.
"I think Jimmy is still available for selection. He has not played since 2015 and I don't think Stuart has either even though he has retired. Those two guys unfortunately won't be a part of this tournament. But yes we do have a really good side of fast bowlers, spinners - a nicely-balanced team,” Buttler replied.
A journalist asked Jos Buttler in the PC if the absence of Anderson and Broad will affect their pace bowling in the tournament?Just look at him,he was trying so hard not to laugh 😂😭.#CWC23

England are coming off a four-wicket win over Bangladesh using the DLS method in the World Cup warm-up match contested at the Barasapara Stadium in Guwahati. Previously, their first warm-up game against hosts India was washed out due to persistent rain at the same venue.
Ahead of the warm-up games, England won the home ODI series against England and Ireland, respectively. England have showcased outstanding performance in the four-match ODI series against the Kiwis and won the series 3-1.
England are the favourites to win the opening match of the World Cup. Meanwhile, skipper Jos Buttler recently stated that he doesn’t like England being called defending champions as the side will try to win the title and not defend it.
