Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul recently sustained an injury to his right thigh in the side’s clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday, May 1. The injury saw the star Indian batter ruled out for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season and even the World Test Championship final that is scheduled to be played from June 7.
With no confirmed date for the 31-year-old’s return, KL took to Instagram, where he gave an update on his injury. He revealed that he has undergone a successful surgery, thanked the doctors, and opined that he was officially on the road to recovery.
Taking to Instagram, KL Rahul wrote, "Hi everyone, I just got done with my surgery - it was successful. A big thank you to the doctors and medical staff for making sure I was comfortable and everything went smoothly. I'm officially on the road to recovery now. I'm determined to get back to my best and get back on the field. Onwards and upwards!"
Lucknow Super Giants take on Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 13
Things haven’t fared well for Lucknow Super Giants in KL Rahul’s absence. Playing two games after his injury, the side saw one of the games against Chennai Super Kings called off due to rain, and they lost the second game to the defending champions Gujarat Titans recently.
For their next assignment, they travel to the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, where they take on the Aiden Markram-led Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 58th game of the tournament on Saturday, May 13. Seeing the respective forms of both teams, Lucknow would be expected to come out victorious.
However, Hyderabad would be coming into the game off a win against the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals, and they would look to further build upon their recent success. In the IPL points table, Lucknow sit in fourth place with 11 points in 11 games, whereas Hyderabad find themselves in ninth place with eight points in 10 games.
