India managed to win the Asia Cup for a record-extending eighth time as they thrashed Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, September 17 with a stunning performance.
Dasun Shanaka won the toss and opted to bat first. Led by Mohammed Siraj, the Indian team showed a lot of hunger from the first ball of the final. The Sri Lankan batters failed to match up to the quality bowling being dished out at them. As many as five batters were dismissed before they could open their accounts as the hosts were skittled out for just 50 in 15.2 overs.
Siraj finished with sensational figures of 6/21 in seven overs while Hardik Pandya enjoyed his stint with the ball as well, picking up three wickets in 2.2 overs, and conceding just three runs. In reply, India made light work of the paltry target as openers Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan finished the game in just 6.1 overs. They remained unbeaten on 27 and 23, respectively to script a phenomenal win for the 'Men in Blue'.
Former Indian pacer Irfan Pathan, who is quite active on social media and loves to take cheeky digs at Pakistani fans, took to his 'X' handle and wrote that India's neighbours are trying to make a lot of noise but their voices are not reaching Colombo.
"Padosi abhi bhi Awaz Karne ki Koshish Kar rahe hai, Lekin Colombo Tak unki Awaaz pahoch nahi rahi hai. #Sunday," the left-arm seamer tweeted.
