New Zealand registered a comprehensive 79-run win in the second ODI against Pakistan to level the three-match 1-1 on January 11. Pakistan bowlers pulled off another impressive performance to bowl out the Kiwis for 261, but the batters struggledas Pakistan were bowled out for just 182 in 43 overs.
Kane Williamson won the toss and surprisingly chose to bat first at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi. Naseem Shah, who took five wickets in the first ODI, gave Pakistan a flying start with Finn Allen's wicket on the inning's fifth delivery.
But Williamson and Devon Conway pulled off a brilliant 181-run partnership for the second wicket to put Kiwis on a track for a big total. Conway continued his red-hot form with his third ODI hundred as he scored 101 runs off 92 balls before getting bowled by Naseem in the 30th over.
New Zealand lost Tom Latham, Glenn Phillips, and Williamson in the next seven overs with the latter scoring 85 runs off 100 balls. Mohammad Nawaz dominated the last few overs with four wickets to bowl out New Zealand to just 261 runs from 49.5 overs. Naseem took three wickets while Haris Rauf and Usama Mir grabbed one each for Pakistan.
While chasing, Pakistan lost both openers Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman in the first four overs with just nine runs on the scoreboard. But the star duo of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan put in a crucial 55-run partnership for the third wicket to keep Pakistan alive.
However, Mitchell Santner bowled out Rizwan in the 20th over and then the hosts lost the wickets at a regular pace. Babar kept the hopes alive from one end, scoring 79 off 114 but Pakistan's innings collapsed on just 180 runs from 43 overs. For New Zealand, spinners Santner and Sodhi took two wickets each.
