Speaking of the game, Vidarbha won the toss and opted to field first. After being put to bat first, Mumbai suffered a middle-order collapse after starting well with the opening pair. However, a fantastic effort from Shardul Thakur saw them reach a commendable total of 224 runs in their first innings. Thakur, batting at No. 8, scored a stunning 75 off 69 deliveries, including eight boundaries and three maximums.

Harsh Dubey and Yash Thakur were the key for Vidarbha, both claiming three-wicket hauls. Meanwhile, Umesh Yadav made two scalps. On the other hand, Vidarbha ended up in a dangerous situation in the last session of Day 1, losing three wickets for just 31 runs.
