Pretoria Capitals’ Will Jacks struck two vital blows in a single over in the game against Paarl Royals in match 18 of the ongoing SA20. Capitals were coming on the back of a majestic win in their previous outing and were on the lookout to register back-to-back wins against Paarl.

Opting to bat first, Pretoria registered 158 runs for the loss of six wickets in their stipulated 20 overs of the contest. In response, the Royals commenced their run chase just as planned with openers Wihan Lubbe and Englishman Jason Roy stitching an important 48-run partnership before the latter was sent packing prior to the conclusion of the powerplay.

Interestingly, Will Jacks took the ball in the 16th over in the hope that he would pull off a miraculous breakthrough for the side and get them back in the contest. The spinner backed it with his terrific deliveries as he dismissed the likes of Dane Vilas and Jos Buttler. The dismissals of the duo batters for a brief moment shifted the momentum towards Pretoria’s end in the chase.

The delivery that dismissed Buttler was a peach. The ball pitched on the off-stump inviting a drive from the batter and turned a long way to disturb the furniture leaving the Royals' skipper stunned.

Skipper David Miller comes to the rescue for Paarl

Following the dismissals of Vilas and Buttler, the onus was on skipper David Miller to steer the side to register a win and obtain the vital two points. The experienced southpaw swiftly hit the ground running for his side and displayed some fine skills with the willow.

With just two balls to spare in the final over of the clash, Mitchell Van Buuren scored the winning runs guiding one through the gap at point on the offside for a boundary in thriller of a contest.

As the business end of the season is on the horizon, teams will need to up the ante and obtain results in their favour to make it to the elimination rounds. Paarl play their next fixture against Sunrisers Eastern Cape on Tuesday, January 24 and will be aiming to get those two points and climb up the table.
