After a gap of over 1000 days, the stars are finally aligned in Virat Kohli's favour as he has returned to his absolute best and smashed 122* off 61 balls against the Afghanistan bowlers in the Asia Cup 2022.
Rashid Khan, considered as one of the best bowlers of the game, could not stop Virat Kohli from scoring those runs as the batter dominated Rashid as well as other bowlers in the game. Based on Virat Kohli’s blistering knock, India gave a target of 213 runs to Afghanistan and they eventually lost by 101 runs.
Following their three losses in a row, Afghanistan are now out of the Asia Cup race. They finished last in the Super 4 table and with that, Rashid Khan and company are now focusing on the upcoming T20 World Cup. However, before leaving, Rashid congratulated Kohli and also wished good luck to Sri Lanka and Pakistan for the final.
“It was an honour to represent my country in this year’s edition of the Asia Cup. A big thank you to the fans for all your love and support. Special mention to Virat Kohli for his maiden T20I (hundred). Wishing Pakistan & Sri Lanka the very best for the finals,” said Rashid on his Instagram account.
Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian team while speaking to Virat Kohli after the match, said how Kohli himself was eager for his 71st century in International cricket. With that, a lot of appreciation has come his way.
Imad Wasim, the Pakistani international on his social media handle, called Virat Kohli the greatest of all time (GOAT) while AB De Villiers, Kohli’s long-time friend revealed that he was sensing a big score from Kohli after their conversation the previous night. Meanwhile, Kohli now has completed 24,000 runs in International cricket. He has become the fastest player in history to achieve that feat.
