Sunil Gavaskar gets honoured by West Indies legend Brian Lara at Queen’s Park Cricket Club

West Indies were 229/5 on Day 3 stumps of the second Test match at the Queens Park Oval in Trinidad.

Sunil Gavaskar, India's batting legend, was honoured at the Queen's Park Cricket Club by West Indies great, Brian Lara. India and the West Indies are currently playing the second match in a two-match Test series at the Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad, thereby marking their 100th match as opponents in the longest format of the game. 

In the same vein, Gavaskar, recently, took to his social media handle and shared a video of the felicitation, in which the batting maestro can be seen beaming as the Queen’s Park Cricket Club members present him with a memento to commemorate the 100th Test between West Indies and India. The 74-year-old also shared a handful of photos with Lara, who is popularly known as 'The Prince of Trinidad'.  

“With the ‘Prince of Trinidad’, Brian Lara, and Nigel Camacho, president of QPCC, after the lovely felicitation by Queens Park Cricket Club in Trinidad. My home away from home. Much love and gratitude to my West Indian fans,” Gavaskar captioned the Instagram post.

Sunil Gavaskar has amassed 2749 runs from 27 Test matches at an average of 65.45, with 13 hundreds and seven half-centuries. The World Cup-winning cricketer’s most famous knock was an unbeaten 236 against the Caribbean nation in Chennai in 1983, which remains his greatest Test score. In addition, he has 1404 runs in 13 matches under tricky West Indian conditions.

India tighten screws over  West Indies in the ongoing Trinidad Test

Speaking of the second Test match of the series, Virat Kohli, who is playing his 500th international match, scored a magnificent knock of 121 off 206 deliveries as India posted 438 in the opening innings. For the hosts, Kemar Roach and Jomel Warrican both took three wickets. 

Skipper Kraigg Brathwaite (75) then scored a half-century as the West Indies were 229/5 on Day 3 stumps. For the visitors, Ravindra Jadeja picked up two wickets while Mohammed Siraj, Ravichandran Ashwin, and debutant Mukesh Kumar picked one each. The Rohit Sharma-led side will seek a win in the Trinidad Test to finish a complete whitewash.
