Australia completed a thumping victory over Ireland after they came out victorious by 42 runs in a crucial clash of the  T20 World Cup 2022 played at the Gabba. Australia's skipper Aaron Finch was simply excellent with the bat as he scored a top-notch fifty.

Speaking about the match, Ireland won the toss and chose to field first. The Irish got off to a good start, dismissing the out-of-form David Warner in the third over. Finch along with Mitchell Marsh struck a 52-run partnership before Barry McCarthy dismissed Marsh to claim his second wicket of the day. Glenn Maxwell was the next to depart for Australia, scoring 13 runs off 9 balls. The hard-hitting Marcus Stoinis came in and supported Finch, as he completed his half-century in quick time.

McCarthy came back into the attack and removed the dangerous Finch, after scoring 63 runs off 44 balls, before Little came good for Ireland once again by getting rid of Stoinis in the 19th over. Tim David provided Australia with a final touch as Australia finished with 179/5 on the board after 20 overs.

In the second innings, the Australian bowlers destroyed the Irish top-order. Pat Cummins got rid of Balbirnie, before Glenn Maxwell dismissed Paul Stirling and Harry Tector in the same over. Curtis Campher and George Dockrell were the next to walk back to the pavilion as Mitchell Starc piled on the pressure on Ireland. At this stage, Ireland were left reeling at 25/5.

Lorcan Tucker played an against-the-tide innings to get Ireland back in the game. However, wickets kept falling around him. Gareth Delany scored 14 runs off 10 balls before being dismissed by Stoinis. Adam Zampa then came into the attack and got rid of Mark Adair and Fionn Hand in quick succession. Tucker went on to score 71* runs off 48 balls but couldn't drag Ireland over the line, losing the game by 42 runs.
