The ongoing Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup 2022 has seen a lot of ups and downs so far, and it has not even been a week. Be it rain playing a part, a cut-throat competition, a player injury, or a major upset- the tournament this year has been a complete package. The most recent news that broke out was Australian wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade testing positive for the novel coronavirus.
Australia are set to play England on Friday, October 28 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, and the fixture is going to be very crucial for the two teams, as the losing side will be virtually knocked out of the tournament. The two favorites to make it to the semi-finals of the tournament from their group are now struggling and Wade testing Covid-19 positive has not added to Australia’s concerns.
Australia had their backup wicketkeeper in the form of Josh Inglis, but he injured his hand while playing golf and was ruled out of the tournament as Cameron Green replaced him. Though as per the rules, a Covid-19 positive can play the match, there is no confirmation as to whether Australia would risk Wade’s health or not.
Surprisingly, Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was seen practicing wicketkeeping drills after the news of Matthew Wade’s health broke out. Wade will be expected to play the game, but the team has to be ready for any unforeseen situation. During an indoor net session, Maxwell was seen polishing his wicketkeeping skills, making fans guess he might keep the gloves if Wade is unable to.
Here’s the video:
Well, that might explain why Glenn Maxwell walked out with the gloves on and did some catching before jumping in the nets today..

Australia gear up for a must-win game
Speaking of Australia’s journey so far at the tournament, their campaign did not get off to the desired start as they lost their first game against New Zealand by 89 runs. The hosts, and defending champions, of the tournament, then bounced back stronger to defeat Sri Lanka by seven wickets and claimed their first two points of the event. Their next contest against England is a must-win game.
