The rain once again came back to hurt South Africa in their ICC  T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 encounter against Zimbabwe at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Monday, October 24. The rain cost the Proteas a match that they rightfully had in the bag with just 13 runs needed off a good four overs.

The Zimbabweans on the other hand did not mind that and lived to fight another day as both teams shared the spoils. While the batters tried their level best to take them to a fighting total in their stipulated nine overs, their bowlers did absolutely no justice in the second innings.

South Africa and Zimbabwe share a point each

The rain played a perfect spoilsport right from the beginning in the clash between these African sides even though the first game of the day featuring Bangladesh and the Netherlands was completed without any interruption with the Asian team coming out on top by nine wickets.

Batting first, the Zimbabweans looked completely clueless against the new ball with the Proteas bowlers applying pressure on them and they found themselves in all sorts of trouble after star all-rounder Sikandar Raza's dismissal and after veteran Sean Williams was sent back cheaply, they were reduced to 19/4 in the fourth over.

Nonetheless, the middle order duo of Wesley Madhevere and Milton Shumba added 60 runs for the fifth wicket which took them to 79/5 from their nine overs. Madehevere scored 35 from 18 balls while Shumba contributed with a vital 18. Lungi Ngidi was the pick of the bowlers for South Africa with figures of 2/20.

In reply, the Proteas started the attack right from the word 'go' as Quinton de Kock seemed to be in a hurry to finish off the proceedings. The rain made its presence felt in the second over of the chase which shortened the contest to seven overs with a revised target of 64.

However, with South Africa well placed at 51/0 after three overs, the rain gods intervened once again and with no play possible the game was forced to be abandoned. De Kock remained unbeaten on an 18-ball 47.
