Bangladesh survived a late fightback from Zimbabwe to register a crucial three-run win in the 28th match of the T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday (October 30). Opener Najmul Shanto smashed 71 runs off 55 balls and Afif Hossain scored 29 runs to put a challenging target of 151 runs for Zimbabwe while batting first. Then in-form pacer Taskin Ahmed bowled a match-winning 3/19 spell to earn Bangladesh a narrow three-run win in a last-ball thriller. With the win, Bangladesh boost to the second position in the Super 12 Group 2 table with four points from the opening three games.

Bangladesh decided to bat first at the Gabba after winning the toss. The star pacer Blessing Muzarabani dismissed opener Soumya Sarkar for a duck in the second over to give Zimbabwe a good start. Muzarabani then took a big wicket of star batter Litton Das and Bangladesh were struggling at 32/2 at the end of the powerplay overs.

But Shanto formed a crucial 54-run partnership for the third wicket with captain Shakib Al Hasan to keep Bangladesh on track for a big total. The veteran all-rounder Sean Williams dismissed Shakib in the 13th over for 23 runs. For Zimbabwe, pacers Richard Ngarava and Muzarabani took two wickets each with economical spells.

Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman cancel out Sean Williams' 64-run knock in a last-over drama

Bangladesh pacers started well with Taskin taking Wessly Madhevere's wicket in the first over and dismissing captain Craig Ervine in his next over on just eight runs to give his team a terrific start. The star pacer Mustafizur Rahman bowled a defining sixth over where he took two big wickets of Sikandar Raza and Milton Shumba to put Bangladesh in firm control of the game.

But the veteran all-rounder Sean Williams kept the fight on with a knock of 64 runs off 42 balls and Ryan Burl smashed an unbeaten 27 runs off 25 balls to drag Zimbabwe closer to the target. Zimbabwe needed 16 runs off the last six balls with Brad Evans and Burl in the middle. Mosaddek dismissed Evans on the second delivery but conceded four leg byes and a six on his next deliveries. He then took Ngarava's wicket on the fifth delivery and Muzarabani's wicket on the last ball which wasn't.

Bangladesh were celebrating a win and crucial two points and everyone was back to the pavilion but the officials ruled Muzarabani's dismissal delivery as a no-ball as the wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan collected the ball ahead of the stumps while stumping him. Both the teams were recalled but it didn't cost two points for Bangladesh as Mosaddek bowled another dot ball to survive a late drama at the Gabba.
