The Asia Cup 2022 got underway in the United Arab Emirates on August 27, and with the competition moving into its second week, only four teams have survived. There are only five matches left in the tournament, and the final is set to take place on September 11, Sunday, at Dubai International Stadium.

The members of the English commentary panel for the Asia Cup 2022 are Irfan Pathan, Russel Arnold, Ravi Shastri, Sanjay Manjrekar, Gautam Gambhir, Scott Styris, Wasim Akram, Athar Ali Khan, Waqar Younis, and Deep Dasgupta. Pathan has received special plaudits for his commentary during the tournament, for the zeal and authenticity that he has brought in the commentary box.

‘Irfan Pathan on the commentary box, what a moment’ says a fan

Fans could not be more pleased to watch the match with some of the former elites of the game such as Akram, Shastri and Gambhir among many more in the commentary box. A fan wrote on Twitter, “@BrettLee_58 (Brett Lee) spotted and @wasimakramlive (Akram) and @IrfanPathan (Pathan) on the commentary box. What a moment for me who grew up as a fan of all these three.”

One user feels that Pathan is surpassing Akram in the commentary box. “@IrfanPathan might be the student of @wasimakramlive when it comes to bowling but talk about commentary and he is bossing the game,” wrote another. One of the fans tweeted that the commentary by Pathan and Gambhir makes them as if they were at the stadium.

“Dear commentators I will feel I'm at stadium. What a commentary sir @cricketaakash @IrfanPathan @GautamGambhir,” tweeted a user. Pathan will be next in action behind the mic on September 6, Tuesday, in Dubai for the Super 4 game between India and Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, the venue witnessed an India-Pakistan classic, with the Men in Green pipping their arch-rivals in the last over.

India batted first and set a strong target of 181 in 20 overs, thanks to Virat Kohli, who scored 60 off 44 balls. Pakistan, however, chased down the target in 19.5 overs, courtesy of a top-class innings by Mohammad Rizwan, who scored 71 off 51.
