After a long wait, all-rounder Arjun Tendulkar finally made his debut for Mumbai Indians in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders in the ongoing IPL 2023. The 23-year-old had a decent outing with the ball, conceding only 17 runs in two overs. He started brilliantly with the new ball as KKR opener Narayan Jagadeesan looked to be in trouble with Arjun's movements with the ball. In the absence of Jofra Archer, he had the responsibility to deliver with the new ball and it could be safely said that the team management would more or less be happy with his contribution.
On the other hand, former cricketers like Sourav Ganguly and Irfan Pathan, among many others, have extended their congratulatory messages to Arjun Tendulkar on Twitter. Notably, this is for the first time that a father (Sachin Tendulkar) and son featured in the IPL while with Duan Jansen’s debut, the match also made history for being the first instance when twins (Duan and Marco Jansen) featured in the IPL.
Meanwhile, Ganguly on his Twitter handle mentioned that Sachin Tendulkar must be very proud of his son while former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan called it a historic day and congratulated Arjun on his debut.
“So happy to see Arjun play for mumbai .. The champion dad must be so proud .. wish him all the best Sachin Tendulkar,” Ganguly mentioned.
“Father and Son turning out for the same franchise 10 years on. A historic first in the IPL. Good luck Arjun Tendulkar,” Pathan stated.
Notably, ahead of the domestic season, Arjun had switched his allegiance from Mumbai to Goa and was reasonably successful for his new team. He trained under Yograj Singh, who’s known as a hard taskmaster and also groomed Yuvraj Singh in his initial days.
Overall, the promising all-rounder has played nine T20 matches and has picked up 12 wickets, while scoring 20 runs in five innings. However, Mumbai didn’t use him much against KKR despite other bowlers conceding runs which came out as a flummoxing move by stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav.
