‘There's a new captain, ah’ - MS Dhoni cheekily reminds host of change in CSK leader

“Well, there’s a new captain. It (muscle memory) is there. But, I am not somebody who reacts a lot, especially when somebody is playing his first game or second game," Dhoni said.

Former Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni has taken up a new role for the five-time champions in the ongoing IPL 2024. The 42-year-old stepped back from being the skipper of CSK, with star batter Ruturaj Gaikwad taking up the mantle from him.

The side has gotten off to a sublime start to their IPL 2024 campaign, winning both matches that they have played this season. Their most recent clash was against Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans. Chennai have played both their games at their home ground — the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk.

In the clash, CSK’s Rachin Ravindra dropped a catch on Sai Sudharsan; however, MS Dhoni had no reaction to the same, and when asked about the moment in a recent interview, the stumper-batter opined that he is not the captain anymore.

“There’s a new captain, ah!. It (muscle memory of Ravindra's dropped catch) is there. But, I am not somebody who reacts a lot, especially when somebody is playing his first game or second game. I think Rutu (Gaikwad) is quite the same. But it was fun to watch him (Rachin) move all round the ground,” MS Dhoni was quoted as saying in a viral video.
